“20/20 Vision Dreams” is Garnet Thompson’s first motivational self-growth book that was released on October 28, 2019. Garnet Thompson is a member of the executive team at a leading health and wellness company which is rated amongst the top in the world. He wrote the book as an interactive and journal focused on helping individuals sustain the attitude necessary to pursue, track, and live their dreams.
This value-adding book has received many praises even in the first few months since the release, from the likes of Andre A.: “I have never taken the time to reflect on my actions and write down my goals. With the use of his personal stories, it’s helped me harness my own memories and transform them into learning experiences while creating newer visions for myself.”, Igor: “This book is certainly value adding and useful especially to today’s youth. It gives insights and perspectives on things that matter in life and offers guidance on a path to a successful and fulfilling life.”, S Watson: “The author nailed the subject. It’s a great easy read with visionary thoughts to adapt to real life situations. I have purchased another copy to give to my daughter for Xmas. She is an elite Canadian athlete and I feel this book will serve her well.”
Garnet’s subjects in every chapter keep me interested and his writing style is easy to follow. I’ve read books that are repetitive, but this one keeps me turning the pages. The book is written in first person and second person point of view and I like the idea that the author includes his own experiences at the end of every chapter, which I sometimes relate to or have an emphasis on some.
One of the crucial to the book’s flow is that he made a lot of metaphors, especially when he compared human beings to ships navigating the vast oceans, with adventure, opportunities, and unknown possibilities on every side.
For me, metaphors are very relevant because it helps the reader visualize the necessary ideas and to fully immerse in the message of the book.
Another crucial part is that it helps you prepare to face the possible adversities as you take your journey in your dreams and in life itself.
As described, it is an interactive book and journal on opening yourself up to dreams and pursuing them with persistence and focus even when the seas turn rough.
What stood out the most to me is the part where Garnet wrote about relationships being the most important part of our lives, and that no matter how busy we get in achieving our goals we should never forget the people we care about.
Sometimes it evokes emotions as I read through the pages, such as the chapter where I was reminded of the passing people or things in my life that I had a hard time letting go of.
Death of a loved one, or even separation from people you deeply cared about, is one of the harshest realities in life that no matter how much you love them there will come a time that you have to let them go. It’s ironic how those important people are often the ones we learned the most significant lessons from and has impacted our lives. Garnet reminded me to make a conscious effort to give time to people around us, especially our loved ones, while we strive out our dreams and goals.
Sometimes I forget that life is not just about me or my desires that I want to work daily. Relationships are one of the main reasons why we live and love, and why we pursue our dreams.
What I wish the author has added more are exercises like what he did in chapter 9 – there’s an exercise to be completed that helps you get engaged and immersed in the valuable ideas of the book. I wish there’s more like it in the next pages. The exercise has made me realize things that I’ve been holding on for years that I needed to work out or let go of.
If I had to change anything in the book, it would be to put more exercise like it as it is written as an interactive and journal.
Even after reading it, it gave me a sense of excitement because of what I found at the end of the book. You will see there a guide to list your 100 dreams. It doesn’t matter how big or small you put in the list because it’ll guide you from the reality starting date up to reality completed date.
To be honest, as an artist on the side, the book has inspired me to paint my feelings that have been nourished by the messages it has offered. I’ve read the book during the weeks of preparation for an art exhibit I was invited to. One night, after I finished a chapter of the book, I sat in front of the blank stretch canvas. I had a hard time thinking about what to paint. I tried to start closing my eyes. In a few seconds, I saw the image of a beautiful tree. As I stare at the tree, I generate feelings similar to how I feel when I think about my dreams and goals, my passion, my future. I stared at it for a while without noticing any other things that possibly existed. And then I opened my eyes. As my laptop is also in front of me, I saw my wallpaper – a diving board. I’ve been using the wallpaper for a month because it’s beautiful in my eyes, makes me want to jump into the water, and conquer my fears. The book I believe has helped my mind come up with the image.
The fact that it doesn’t just motivate you and tell you to pursue your desires, and it reminds you the necessary things to consider while on your way to success – that life is not just about being successful on your dreams but also giving value and time to people you care about during your journey… – this book deserves to be more exposed to the world. Although the book does not choose age, it is perfect for young adults who are about to take their journey of pursuing their ambitions and dreams, or even those who are still in the verge of figuring out what they want in life
For me, the book is like the gas you’re looking for in a deserted place when your car stopped its engine. It helps you get started and guides you with the needed things to prepare yourself on the journey.
Thanks for reading!
